DIRECTIONS TO EVENT: MILE RUN EXIT ON INTERSTATE 80.  (EXIT 199 ON INTERSTATE 80)

THE EVENT STARTS AND FINISHES JUST NORTH OF THE EXIT 199 - INTERSTATE 80 - HUGE DCNR PARKING AREA...

GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION:

MILES 0 - 3.25 - START AT THE DCNR PARKING AREA, OUT TO MILE RUN ROAD, NORTH ON MILE RUN ROAD FOR APPROX. .25 MILE.  TURN ONTO THE MILE RUN TRAIL AT THE TRAILHEAD - FIRST STREAM CROSSING.  STAY ON MILE RUN TRAIL FOR APPROX. 3.25 MILE.  THIS IS A VERY TECHNICAL SECTION OF THE COURSE WITH ABUNDANT ROCKY AREAS.  THIS SECTION IS MOSTLY INCLINE.  THIS SECTION ENDS WITH AN AREA OF RESCUE / AID STATION ON MILE RUN ROAD.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AID STATION.

MILES 3.25 - 6.5 - NOW THAT YOU HAVE REFUELED, CROSS MILE RUN ROAD AND RUN THROUGH A NICE SECTION OF PINES FOR ABOUT .25 MILE.  THEN BACK UPHILL FOR ANOTHER .25 MILE.  NOW SOME RECOVERY.  ABOUT 1 MILES OF RECOVERY RUNNING NOW LIES AHEAD OF YOU.  YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT.  NOW DROP INTO A HOLLOW AND CROSS A SMALL STREAM AND CLIMB YOUR WAY BACK OUT.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS SECTION WITH EASIER FOOTING AND GREAT VIEWS.  YOU NOW HIT FOURTH GAP ROAD AT MILE 6.5 AND A WELL DESERVED AID STATION.  FUEL UP!

MILES 6.5 - 9 - HEAD UP FOURTH GAP ROAD FOR A TENTH OF A MILE.  NOW TURN INTO THE PINES FOR A FUN RUN IN THE PINE NEEDLES FOR A QUARTER MILE.  NOW TO WEBSTER TRAIL.  THIS GIVES YOU GREAT SINGLE TRACK FOR 2 MILES, GREAT PART OF THE COURSE - 2ND HALF OF THIS TRAIL IS NEW THIS YEAR AND WHAT A GREAT ADDITION!  HOLD ON FOR THE DOWNHILL....  HIT MILE 9 AID STATION.

MILES 9 - 11 - MILE 9 AID STATION IS A NECESSITY.  NOW THAT YOU HAVE REFUELED, BACK UPHILL!  SHORT SECTION TAKES YOU BACK UP THE MOUNTAIN AND OVER TO THE NEXT STREAM CROSSING.  AFTER THAT, STRAIGHT UP (AND I MEAN UP) TO RED TONGUE TRAIL.  TAKE THIS TRAIL BACK TO THE INTERSECTION OF FOURTH GAP ROAD AND MILE RUN TRAIL.  THIS INTERSECTION IS MILE 11 ON THE COURSE.  A WATER TABLE IS AVAILABLE FOR A LAST DRINK BEFORE THE FINISH.

MILES 11 - FINISH - AID STATION IS AT THE INTERSECTION OF FOURTH GAP ROAD AND MILE RUN ROAD.  TAKE TIME TO GET A DRINK HERE AS IT IS ALL DOWNHILL TO THE FINISH!  TAKE MILE RUN TRAIL BACK DOWN STRAIGHT TO THE LAST STREAM CROSSING.  THEN CROSS BACK OVER WITH THE LAST PIECE OF TRAIL AND THROUGH THE TUNNEL!!!  SORRY, BUT UPHILL FROM THERE TO THE FINISH LINE.
